BMS invites you to join us and Bay Ridge's Melissa Lee for a reading of her heartfelt book "My Dad Loves Me" dedicated to her grandson in
memory of her son.
Back in the days before one young boy went to pre-K, before he began to play soccer, when everything was new, his dad loved him. When he was two years old, before the two of them had time to do all the things that fathers and sons do, he lost his dad. Even so, he knows now that his dad loves him. He finds comfort in his memories, in the knowledge that his dad loved him, and in the reassurance that he always will.
Designed to help other children facing the loss of a loving parent, this poignant story for young readers shares the perspective of a young boy who has experienced the loss of his father.
My Dad Loves Me is a beautiful story about a father's love for his son even when he is no longer here. Growing out of the many questions Melissa's Grandson had over the years, longing for the connection with his father, Melissa was able to heal her own heartache in writing to her grandson about
her son who tragically passed too young. A sweet book written by a loving mother to her grandson to reassure him that even though his father is not physically here with him, his love for him is everywhere.
About Melissa Lee:
As far back as I can remember I have always expressed myself through the art. With every experience, every emotion that life elicited came a song, a poem, a picture or a story. I would write them down as they popped into my head so I wouldn’t forget to finish them later. Now, I often put them into my notes on my phone, as I did with this story: My Dad Loves Me. The book evolved from a conversation that I was having with my grandson about how he longed for the physical presence in his life of his father, my son, who has crossed the bridge… I was trying to comfort him… sharing stories, answering questions and reassuring him that his Dad will always love him.
